Beijing, most of you guys know it is the capital of China, but few know this name will be connected with a watch factory. Beijing Watch Factory, is one of the oldest watch factories founded in China, together with Shanghai Watch Factory and Sea-gull Watch Company, they are the big three in Chinese watch industry. Like the other two, Beijing Watch Factory also has a long watch-making history and it has the ability to develop movements by themselves, the first tourbillon movement made in China came from Beijing Watch Factory. I feel a little strange that Beijing Watch Factory never sell their movements to the public, which means they do not offer movements for other watch brands, the movements coming from Beijing Watch Factory are only used in their watches. This is a different strategy from Sea-gull. Every watch offered by Beijing has a strong Chinese style, I think few of you guys will like them.

For Sea-gull, it is more international, so you will know Sea-gull better. But when people talking about Beijing, perhaps you have no idea about this brand, actually Beijing also offers a lot of classic watches that have good finish and also meet our design aesthetic standards, if you do not mind its unique logo, which is The Tian’Anmen Rostrum.

This Beijing watch looks great and has a nice finish. It is a model from Classic series, the watch has a case diameter up to 40mm, not including the pumpkin-shaped crown, it is measured to be 11mm in thickness. 40mm is a very popular size, it is acceptable for most people, when choosing a dress watch, now I prefer a big size, not the one in 38mm or 39mm, by the way, the design of the lugs makes the watch looks bigger, I like it. The case is brushed, including the thin and round bezel, the crown is too big, but very easy to operate, I hate some watches with a very small crown, sometimes you need to use a big strength to pull out it.

The dial is white, Beijing also offers a black dial version. The logo of The Tian’Anmen Rostrum is very unique, I think it has a special meaning to Beijing Watch Factory. The central second hand is in bright red that will immediately catches your eyes, minute markers are also red dots, Beijing very like using red color. The hour markers are delicately designed, at 3:00, 6:00, 9:00 and 12:00, the hour markers are stainless steel sticks, and the stainless steel marker at 12 o’clock has a pointed tip. Central hour hand and minute hand are in elegant willow shape. Due to the 40mm diameter, the dial still does not look crowded even these long hour markers have occupied a large space. The date window is opened in round with black font in white background, for me, the window looks too small.

I am very happy that the watch adopts an exhibition case back, where you can see the engine inside, which is an automatic movement imported from Japan. I only know that this is not an in-house movement from Beijing. Its auto rotor is skeletonized and has The Tian’Anmen Rostrum stamp in red color, there are not too much decoration made on the movement plates, but seeing from the work made on the auto rotor, it is much better and delicate than all other Chinese micro watch brands.

The watch is equipped with a black leather band that is fitted with a stainless steel deployant clasp. Beijing focuses on details, you will see black stitching outside, while red stitching on the other side of the band. I just received the watch yesterday, its accuracy still needs to be tested, but I trust the quality of Japanese movement.

I think many of you guys have heard of Ebohr, which is a very famous watch brand in China, Ebohr was founded in Shenzhen of China, they do not make movements, the movements used by them are all imported, mostly from Japan. However, the watches they have designed can meet the aesthetic standard of most people, especially those people who like Swiss watches, among all Chinese watches I have reviewed on my blog, I only find that Ebohr and Tianwang have some Swiss watches’ design features, I think this is also a big reason why both watches can compete with the big three traditional watch companies in China, which including Sea-gull, Shanghai and Beijing.

This Ebohr watch I am going to review is a diving-style watch from its Explorer series, I got it in last week when I was on a holiday with my family, I decided to buy this watch in last month and very happy to receive it before my holiday to the beach. The watch is not expensive, which is even cheaper than some homages, its color design attracted me, the color combination of red and blue brings a stronger visual impact. By the way, Ebohr also offers a black and red color option for this watch.

The Ebohr Explorer is made with solid 316L stainless steel, which is fully in matt finish, check from the sides, the lugs are naturally curved with a smoothly polished edge to give the wearer a more comfortable wearing experience. The crown, which has protecting guards on top and below, has a Ebohr logo in santin finish. The blue/red bezel is not ceramic made, it is made with aluminum. The case has a diameter up to 43mm, it is measured to be only 12.5mm in thickness, which is thinner than most other diver’s watches made in China.

I like its dial, which somewhat draws inspiration from the design of Seiko diver’s watch, certainly you can see its own characteristics. The dial has a multi-level three-dimentional structure, the beveled inner bezel is blue and has small square markers in red color, which exactly in line with the blue and red bezel, all hour markers are tridimensional and are filled with white luminous material, so are hour hand and minute hand, the lume light emitting from hour markers and hands is green, which forms a high contrast with the blue dial and makes the watch look more beautiful. The central small second hand is in bright red color, this also enhances the dial readability in dark conditions. By the way, the white anchor logo printed at 6 o’clock is an interesting element on the dial.

The Ebohr diver’s watch is equipped with a Seiko automatic movement, I do not know which exact Seiko movement it uses, but from the cost of the watch, I guess it is a NH35A from Seiko, many diving watches made in China including some homages use this movement because of its low cost and considerable stability. About accuracy, the watch will gain 8 sec to 10 sec each day, after wearing the watch for one week, now it is 3 minutes ahead, I will adjust adjust it to the standard time later.

I have a special feeling on Parnis, no other Chinese homage watches can not be compared with Parnis in my heart, no matter how good and beautiful they are. Parnis is the first homage watch I knew, before I saw many people talking about this brand in the forums, and they also said the quality is acceptable at the price point, which is very affordable for a lot of people. For such a homage watch with low price and real functions, Parnis is ideal for you to choose, having been in the homage field for more than ten years, Parnis has been recognized by most homage watch fans, they are willing to buy watches from Parnis even they know it is a Chinese brand. The only thing I feel pity is that now Parnis seldom publishes new models.

Stainless steel case with leather strap, white dial with small subdials, I like the watch with such features arranged in this way, it looks so elegant and immediately draws my attention when I found the watch online, so I have already made several decisions because of this, all of the watches like this type I own, I love them very much, after all I am an office worker, I feel very happy when going to work every day wearing a different brand dress watch.

The watch has a big case, which measures 43mm in diameter and has a thickness of 14.5mm. The case is polished with a mirror-like bezel that is thin and narrow, the white dial looks larger due to such case design, it seems like all elegant dress watches have this common feature. The screw-in crown looks special, it has flutes on the surface and a “P” logo on the front, there are no crown guards, and because of the flutes, the crown is very easy to pulled out and rotate. The mineral crystal set in the bezel frame does not stand high above the bezel, but it is exactly the bezel structure that increases the thickness of the case.

The white dial looks elegant because of its color and has an asymmetrical beauty. There are two subdials on this purely white dial, one is positioned at 5 o’clock, it has a small hand indicating remaining erengy of the movement. The other subdial is positioned at 9 o’clock, it has a small seconds hand in blue color. Both subdials are not symmetrically displayed on the dial, but I like this irregular design, it is also this design that leaves space for the date window, which is displayed with white font in background at 3 o’clock. There are no hour markers on the dial, only track-style minute markers with numbers 05, 10 to 60.

The crystal back shows you an automatic movement, which is said to be a Sea-gull ST2530. I do not know if it is a real Sea-gull movement, but according to its finsh-scale finish on its auto rotor and movement plates, it is like Sea-gull movement. Actually many Chinese homage watches like this Parnis at this price point do not use Sea-gull movement, they usually are equipped with a very common automatic movement made in China, which is not as good and popular as Sea-gull, so I feel very happy that this Parnis uses a Sea-gull movement. By the way, the black leather band on the watch feels ultra soft to wear.

Seeing from the name, Yelang is a homegrown Chinese brand, I do not know there is such a military watch brand in China, but it indeed surprised me with its solid quality and unique Tritium lume. Yelang is not young now, but I do not know too much about it, I only know this is a military watch from China, which is developed with the cooperation of DB and HOJUT, I heard that their production line is in Hong Kong, not sure whether this is true or not, because many Chinese watch brands are good at making up stories like this. Anyway, I like military watch, this Yelang watch looks so unique and has a strong quality that gives me a reliable feeling. Yelang is also one of the few military watches in China that uses Tritume lume system.

The Yelang V1019 has a big case, which is too large for many men, it measures 43.5mm in diameter and 13.8mm in thickness, the case is fully made with solid stainless steel, with stainless steel bracelet, the watch feels a little heavy. The watch looks rugged, I do not mean its quality is cheap, instead the watch has a top quality, it is the best military watch I have ever bought. I do not have a real military watches, even those diver’s models in my collection do not look as stong as this Yelang watch, its robust case with thick bezel markers, strong tritium lume dial and wide bracelet links, these are all necessary elements you can find on a solid quality military watch.

The dial is the main point, it is blue, with Swiss H3 T100 lume system, each bar-shaped hour marker is set up with a tritium tube, so are the hour hand and minute hand, this is the first Chinese watch I have seen with such a tritium tube lume, other diver’s watches I have all use luminous coating applied on the markers and hands. Such lume offered by the gas tube can last for a long time, about 25 years Yelang said, that’s a big advantage for a diver’s watch, I do not know why most diving models have abandoned this. The three-dimensional Yelang logo is positioned under 12 o’clock.

The case back is screw-down, together with the screw-in crown, both to ensure a 100m water resistance of the watch. There is a sapphire crystal on the center to display an automatic movement, which is NH36A, this movement is from Seiko in Japan, not a Swiss movement like Yelang claims on their website. However, the NH36A automatic movement has a high stability, it has a 21,600 BPH and 41-hour power reserve, now the accuracy of the watch is good, NH36A claims to be -20~+40 seconds per day, but currently only 12 seconds faster each day. By the way, Yelang sents me one extra black rubber band and a bracelet removal tool in the box.

Buying advice:

It is very wise for you to keep several diving-style watches in your collection. This Yelang watch is special because it uses a Tritium lume system that will give you another wearing experience. With a Japanese movement inside, the Yelang is a solid military watch. For people who love big and strong diver’s watch, this Yelang watch is a good choice, and the company has upgraded the watch with a Swiss SW220 movement, which guarantee the watch will accompany you for more than ten years.

My first subsidiary second Chinese watch is from Sea-gull, I have had it for almost one month now, and the watch still works very well. You guys must buy one small-second automatic watch, it is one of the most elegant dress watches I have seen with a clean dial design. For such a small-second watch, it is not expensive even you choose a Swiss-originated one, but one with more affordable price is the Nomos, which comes from Germany with Bauhaus style, it is a great option to choose a small-second watch, which has a good quality. However, if you are searching online, you will find some small-second watches made in China too, with much lower price and moderate quality, they may be better choices and can save you a lot at the same time. Borman, I found this watch several days ago, it is a germany originated watch, whether it is true or not, I like their watches’ design, which is in line with the aesthetics of Swiss or German watches. This rose gold Borman is the second watch I bought from them, it has a small-second feature and a very solid quality.

The rose gold case is made with inner 316L stainless steel material, not a solid rose gold watch, there is only a layer of rose gold coating on the surface, not sure how thick it is, but it will certainly fade after some days of wearing, we won’t know how long the gold will last before fading, but I suggest you take a very good care of your watch if you want it to keep its original rose gold tone for a long time. The brown leather band is made with soft and durable calfskin leather, which features embossed crocodile textures on the surface, together with the rose gold case, they enhance the luxury temperament of the entire watch.

I was really shocked by this timepiece when I was making a searching online about good quality designer watches made in China. I thought it is a German brand because of its complications dial and sophisticated craftsmanship, however, after reading the introduction on its website and checking wathces’ prices, I am sure that Borman is a Chinese brand. Borman, I am glad the brand has chosen such a nice name, like the name of a pilot coming from Germany. I checked all watches produced by Borman yesterday and found they are all dress watches, there are no sports models or diver’s watches from Borman, they are doing one specific thing, also a great project, although the watch quality is not as solid as A.Lange or Glashutte from Germany, but Borman really deserves more attention from us.

The case is crafted with solid 316L stainless steel, its diameter is up to 40mm and thickness is about 12mm, this is a very popular case size for most dress watches, by the way, the case is not thick, I like it, some of watches like this made in China are too thick when being integrated with several functions. The fluted pumpkin-shaped crown is easy for the wearer to rotate to adjust time and date, the crown has a glossy high-polished “BORMAN” lettering on a sanded background. By the way, the lug width is 21mm, it is strange that Borman does not use rose gold on case back rim.

The coffee dial breaks through the design traditions of most Chinese watches, it has the aesthetics of mechanical watches made in Germany. Whether the GMT, Moon Phase indicator or week display, they are greatly different from the Chinese watches you usually see. The small dial at 12 o’clock is a world time display that has a true GMT function, but you need to adjust it manually by push the button on the case at 2 o’clock. For example, when you in New York, the main dial tells you local time, but you can adjust the GMT hand to the hour time of another city at the same time. The semicircular indicator at 6 o’clock shows you day and night through the rotating sun and moon disc, it is a false moon phase indicator, it will rotate every 24 hours. The week is displayed at 9 o’clock from “MO” to “SU” alternately. The date window features a black date font in white background. The most interesting thing I found on the dial is its central seconds hand, it is very small, just on the axis of the hand set. The button on the case at 4 o’clock is pressed to adjust the week display.

The watch features an exhibition-style case back that is fixed by eight screws. Behind the central crystal, there is golden movement inside that has beautiful finish on the auto rotor and movement plates. The movement is claimed by Borman with 48-hour power reserve, I do not think so, it is just a very common automatic movement from China, 38-hour power reserve I think, but I still suggest you wind it every night before going to bed to keep a more accurate timing. The watch is equipped with a brown leather band, which is fitted with a deployant clasp that also has beautiful fish-scale patterns like the movement. I like the Borman watch very much, I want to keep it on my wrist every day, because it looks more Swiss made than the other dress watches in my collection.

Rossini, this brand has been in watch industry for a lot of years, but I do not know much about it. I made some searches online and found some beautiful ladies watches of them, and certainly a connection with the Swiss they have claimed in their brand story, although not obvious, but like most other watches created in China, Rossini tried to promote their watches with some Swiss-related elements. There are a lot of micro brands like Rossini in China, but not all of them are high quality, some even claimed they are made in the Switzerland to cheat customers, some are really high quality, you need a good guide to pick a quality watch, while cano not spend too much. Rossini is not a homage brand, they have their own designs, especially on ladies models, but I do not think men will choose a Rossini when they also meet some popular homages at the same price point.

Why I choose this Rossini watch although I already have a lot of diver’s watches? I was simply attracted by its design inspiration that comes from the Devil Ray. I checked the entire watch, its color combination of silver and black is exactly the color you find on the Devil Ray, and the design elements on the dial, also inspired by the Devil Ray. This is not about homage, the watch is totally independently designed by Rossini, few brands like them to use an animal in the sea as a design theme of their diver’s watch.

The watch looks strong and robust because is is fully made with solid stainless steel, with wide bracelet and bezel. The case has a diameter of 43mm and thickness of 12.4mm, for a diving watch, the thickness is ok for most people, but the case is a little big for some people after all it is 43mm. The case is fully brushed, the uni-directional rotating bezel has engraved black markers, and features a white lume pearl at 12 o’clock. The shape of the lugs and crown guards looks similar to the front face of the Devil Ray. On the solid stainless steel back, there is an engraving of Devil Ray, the back is screwed down to gurantee a 100m water resistance.

The black dial has an unique sandy texture, the hour markers, including the big digits 3-6-9-12, they have big and wide design, so they can be applied with more lume material, to ensure the dial markers and hand have a long-lasting glow in dark conditions. The hour hand also draws design inspiration from the shape of the Devil Ray, both hour hand and minute hand have been applied with lume material, the sweeping seconds hand on the center has a tip in bright red color. There is a Devil Ray image at 6 o’clock.

At last, I want to talk about the movement, the Rossini uses a Seiko NH35A automatic movement, which is widely used in many diver’s watches created in China. Like this Rossini, these type of diver’s watches with NH35A movement have two big obvious features, basic timing function and cheap prices. Til now, the watch is a bit faster, about 10 seconds each day. It is said that the watch with NH35A movement will run a little faster at the beginning, it will become normal and more accurate after wearing for a while. By the way, I would love the watch more if one extra nato band could be offered for this Rossini watch.

Do you know Lobinni? I read the brand story on its website and know it is registered in the Switzerland, is this true? I doubt it, a few watch brands in China have such a false story, claiming that they are made in a town of the Switzerland, actually they are just common watches made in China, and their movements are either from China or Japan, not C.O.S.C certified. However, I have seen many positive reviews about Lobinni, some doubt the brand’s origin but still like the quality of their watches, which are solid made with real functions. This is my first Lobinni watch, which looks classic on stainless steel case and black leather band, the dial design also makes it look a bit complicated but very easy to read. I have several dress watch with power reserve feature, except Parnis, this Lobinni is my most favorite.

The watch is slightly similar to a watch made by Jaeger LeCoultre, I do not know its name, but its dial certainly refers to the design of that Jaeger watch. Stainless steel case, silver dial and black leather strap, this is a very classic combination, every brand has such type of a dress watch in their product line.

The watch has a stainless steel case with a diameter of 41mm, which is not too big or too small, a suitable size for most wrist, the case thickness is 11.5mm, which can not be called ultra-thin, but it is already very thin for a mechanical watch with multiple functions. The case and round bezel are polished, the lugs have graceful arched design that make the watch fit your hand in a more comfortable way, the screw-down crown is onion-shaped and features a Lobinni logo on the frontal face, which is a “L” letter in a flower. The crown is designed to have a big size so that it will be much easier for the wearer to operate.

The white grid dial is the main point. The entire face has a slope design to show hour markers and minute scales, there are also several indicators in 3D to display different functions of the watch. First, the fan-shaped indicator positioned between 10 o’clock and 11 o’clock shows you the remaining power reserve energy, once the watch fully winded, the small hand will point at “40”. The day and night is displayed through the arch-shaped indicator at 2 o’clock, while the date is shown at 6 o’clock. All hour markers have a three-dimensional design, they have multiple cutting face, just like the central hour hand and minute hand. On the case, there are two small buttons up and under the crown, the one up the crown is to set day&night display, the button below the crown is set to adjust date.

The case back is a see-through sapphire crystal that shows an automatic movement in front of your eyes, it has beautiful decoration on the auto rotor and movement plates. Based on my experience, this is a very common Chinese movement that has a power reserve of about 38 hours once being fully winded. The black genuine leather band is made with calfskin leather that is soft and durable, it is fitted with a deployant clasp in stainless steel. The watch also has a rose gold version. Til now, the watch still works fine, no accuracy issue, 8 seconds faster each day is not a problem.

About Fiyta, you guys are more familiar with it than me, it is also more famous than other watches I introduced on my blog, certainly except Sea-gull, after this is the greatest national brand of China. Fiyta has a long history, it was founded in 1987 in Shenzhen of China, it is the only one listed watch company in China. Fiyta watches use movements supplied by Sea-gull, their watches have a very close style to the design of Swiss watches. I have several Sea-gull watches, but I never bought one Fiyta watch before, so this pilot’s watch is my first Fiyta watch, it has a price higher than that of the other watches in my collection.

I do not know if it is the J-20 model that made me decide to buy this watch, the J-20 fighter model sent with the watch is really attractive, certainly the watch is also a solid timepiece, the iron box is specially made for this special edition watch, Fiyta also shipped on extra band inside the box. There are black and blue models for this watch to choose, and I select the blue one, which comes with a blue dial and blue leather band.

On this Fiyta, its case profile and dial style describe a classic pilot’s watch. The case is made of 316L stainless steel, with a diameter of 42mm and 12mm thickness, the case and bezel are smoothly polished, versus two brushed sides, seeing from the side, the case has a beautiful arc with round and smooth corners that are perfectly polished. The screw-down crown feautres a sanded finish star logo on the polished face. On the solid case back that is fixed by star-shaped screws, there are a few engravings with their meanings. When take a closer look at its case and dial, I found this Fiyta has a similar outlook to IWC Big Pilot.

The blue radial dial has a delicate finish, there are three small dials, each has their own useful purpose. The big numeral hour markers refer to the design of IWC Big Pilot, they have been applied with lume material, so are the broad hour hand and minute hand in sword shape. Fiyta claims that the lume light can glow more than 4 hours in dark environments after absorbing enough light. The subdial at 6 o’clock is for time display in 24-hour display, the 3:00 subdial features a small hand pointing at currect month, its opposite subdial at 9 o’clock is week display. Each small hand on these subdials has a red tip, just like the central second hand. You can adjust the month by pushing the button at 2 o’clock, other features like time, week and date can be adjusted via the screw-in crown.

The blue leather band is made with calfskin leather, it feels with soft to wear, two loops help to fasten the end of the band, the pin buckle in stainless steel also looks very distinguished, I like it.

I knew Caluola several years ago, at that time, I worked in a watch company, they sold a lot of Chinese brand watches as well as replica watches, Caluola is one of the brands they were dealing with. I do not know the background of Caluola, but it is mostly likely from Guangzhou, there are a lot of micro brands like Caluola made in Guangzhou, perhaps the development of fake watch industry also gave birth to these types of Chinese brands. Caluola is not a homage and also does not make any models with sports styles, most of their watches are dress watches that looks elegant, some ladies watches have diamonds that look luxury.

Caluola does not copy the designs of Swiss brands, at most one or two elements of Cartier are used on some ladies models. Today, I want to introduce an interesting Caluola watch, why I describe a watch “interesting”? You will know the answer after seeing its dial. I have bought dozens of Chinese watches, some are like this Caluola, they really like to use subdials design and open a window on the dial. Take this Caluola watch for example, does the subdial at 9:00 really add extra function to the watch? I do not think so, it is just another hour hand, I even think it is redundant. The window opened at 6 o’clock, Caluola claims it is a tourbillon, that’s ridiculous, it is just an opening to show the working of balance wheel and gears. I do not know why they do these, maybe the purpose is simple, just to let the watch look more complicated than it is, so that they can sell it at a higher price than it worth in Chinese market, after all, most Chinese buyers know little about watches. But Caluola will never sell at such high prices in foreign markets. The subdial at 3 o’clock is displaying day and night, it is a false moon phase, but it is the only subdial that is useful to the wearer, because the small seconds hand is moving on.

I still like the watch although I complained a lot above, I choose the rose gold model with brown leather strap, the watch has a very uniform coloring, wearing it can both show your identity and luxury taste. The watch will be a perfect timepiece for men who usually need to wear suits to attend some formal occasions. The watch has a case diameter of 43mm and 12mm in thickness, it is completely polished with curved lugs to fit your hand in a more comfortable way, by the way, the straight lugs are polished smoothly with round edge to guarantee your wearing comfort.

About the dial, its finish is good, even better than the other dress watches in my collection. The functions on the dial I complained above are not big deal for most people, after all it’s a rule in the watch-making industry. The good craftsmanship is reflected through its two hands and hour markers, both sword hands are not flat, but a little ridgy because of their multiple cutting faces. The center of each hand is applied with white lume material.

I like the movement displayed through the transparent sapphire crystal back, it has a decorated auto rotor with brand name “Caluola” engraving in black. There are very simple striped polishings on the auto rotor and movement plates. For its price offered for Chinese customers, I think Caluola should choose an automatic movement with date feature for this watch, to show the date at 6 o’clock instead of a false tourbillon device there. Considering all aspects, this Caluola is a watch that can show the elegance of a dress watch to the maximum.
